Update on influenza situation in Singapore

  1. The Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) has observed an increase in influenza cases in Singapore. There is no indication to suggest that the infections are more severe than usual. CDA is monitoring the situation.

  2. The positivity rate for influenza among influenza-illness like samples in the community has increased to 36.6% in the week of 16 to 22 August 2026, compared to 24.0% in the previous week. The current influenza positivity levels remain below last year’s peak of 43.9% observed in January 2025. 

  3. In Singapore, national surveillance data indicates that seasonal influenza viruses circulate throughout the year, with periods of higher activity typically observed between May to August and December to March. These bimodal peaks broadly coincide with the Northern and Southern Hemisphere winter periods, but their timing may vary from year to year due to factors such as international travel and population mixing patterns.

Exercising personal and social responsibility

  1. Individuals at a higher risk of developing severe influenza infections, such as seniors aged 65 and above, children aged six months to five years, and other vulnerable groups with underlying medical conditions are recommended to receive their influenza vaccinations at least once a year. Individuals may book their influenza vaccination appointments at participating Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) general practitioner clinics at https://vaccine.gov.sg/flu (opens in new tab) or polyclinics. Eligible adults aged 18 and above may also receive influenza vaccination at participating retail pharmacies under the Ministry of Health's Community Pharmacist Influenza Vaccination Sandbox (opens in new tab). Healthier SG enrollees are encouraged to book their vaccination appointment at their enrolled clinics.

  2. Persons with mild acute respiratory infections symptoms should stay at home until their symptoms resolve, and if there is a need to go out while symptomatic, they should exercise social responsibility by minimising social interactions, wearing a mask, and avoiding crowded places or meeting medically vulnerable persons. Medically vulnerable persons such as seniors and those with chronic medical conditions, as well as persons with severe, prolonged, or worsening symptoms, should see a doctor.
